The Drawback of Shark Tank’s AirTulip for Improving Home Air Quality

Inventors on “Shark Tank” often solve serious problems with their products. Arjen de Jong, the founder of AirTulip, introduced a revolutionary air-purifying headboard to the Sharks. Concerned about the cleanliness of air while sleeping, de Jong used his aerospace engineering background to develop prototypes and launched a Kickstarter campaign. NFL Pro Bowler Matt Judon became a fan of AirTulip and used it for daily recovery. However, the high cost of starting at $1,990 is a major downside to Shark Tank’s AirTulip.

The AirTulip headboard is a precision product available in twin, queen, or king sizes with a minimalist design. The technology is hidden within the base, driving up the price. Hand-built in the United States, each AirTulip features 3D-printed aerodynamic fan blades, medical-grade filters, and a honeycomb composite core. Replacement filters must be changed quarterly, costing $570 a year for a king-sized bed.
