Create Your Own Dollar Tree Tray for Earthy Home Decor on a Budget

Crafters have found creative ways to repurpose Dollar Tree picture frames into various items such as drawer organizers, plant hangers, and tables. One popular DIY project involves turning an 11×14-inch frame into a stylish tray adorned with river rocks and handles. By using only Dollar Tree items, you can create a decorative or functional tray depending on the materials and process you choose. This project was shared by @Gleespen Designs on YouTube, showcasing how a $3 frame from the Dollar Tree Plus section can be transformed into a unique tray.

For this project, you will need a large wooden frame, two metal drawer pulls, river rocks, a glue gun, paint or stain, and a brush. The color scheme and design of your tray will depend on your choice of frame and stones. If you can’t find a suitable frame at Dollar Tree, a plastic frame can be used for a purely decorative tray with added reinforcement. E6000 glue is recommended for a secure bond between different materials.

A tray for budget-friendly beauty

To create a decorative tray with a plastic frame, remove the glass and reinforce the frame with glue. Paint the frame, arrange the river rocks, and attach the handles with hot glue. For a smoother surface, epoxy resin can be used to secure the stones in place.

A tray pairing form with function

For a sturdier and more functional tray, consider using a wooden frame from a thrift store. In addition to the previous supplies, you will need a drill and epoxy coating for added durability. Attach the handles with screws for a stronger hold. Follow similar steps as the budget-friendly version but with the addition of epoxy resin and drilling holes for the handles.
