Create Stunning Collage Greeting Cards Using Used Tea Bags

In the past, natural materials like tea leaves and coffee grounds were used for crafting before modern commercial dyes were available. You can repurpose a tea bag to create a floral-patterned “stained-glass window” design for a greeting card, giving it a vintage touch with a modern twist.

To create this design, you’ll need pressed, dried flowers to glue onto the dampened, repurposed tea bag. The staining from the tea creates a mocha-tinged backdrop for the flowers. Experiment with different types of tea for varied paper colors. You’ll need glue, a small paint brush, a bowl of water, and an X-Acto Knife to construct the card.

To upcycle a tea bag for this craft, you’ll need to remove the staple and carefully separate the wet bag. Consider the size of the deconstructed tea bag when cutting out the card’s window pane. Glue dried flowers onto the tea bag paper, then sandwich them between two tea-stained papers before attaching them to the card.

Ways to level up the project

In addition to dried flowers, you can use seeds, ribbons, glitter, sequins, and stickers to decorate the greeting card. Experiment with different elements to match the theme of the card, such as using pumpkin seeds and flowers together for a fall-inspired design. Add ribbon and glitter for extra flair.
