Storing pots and pans in kitchen cabinets can be frustrating. As a professional cabinetmaker, I understand this firsthand. Roll-out shelves can help, but it can still be confusing. Another issue is that pots and pans don’t store compactly, taking up unnecessary space. Hanging pots and pans on the wall can be a better solution.
A DIY pegboard panel is an easy and versatile way to hang kitchenware on the wall. It’s inexpensive and can be customized to fit your kitchen. You can find the necessary supplies at a big box home center.
First let’s measure
Measure your kitchen wall space and determine the size of the pegboard panel needed. Lay out your pots and pans to see how much space you’ll require. Consider buying a ¼-inch thick pegboard panel in the appropriate size.
Buy 2 x 2s to form a frame around the panel, along with carpenter’s glue, screws, and finishing washers. Purchase the peg hooks you’ll need as well.
Making the pegboard hanging panel
Cut the 2 x 2s to create a frame for the pegboard panel. Join the frame together, then attach the pegboard to the frame using glue and screws. Mount the panel on the wall, securing it with screws and finishing washers. Install the peg hooks to hang your pots and pans.
Design options and considerations
You can paint the panel or add decorative molding for a customized look. Consider using plastic or metal pegboard panels for different aesthetics. Metal panels are suitable for heavy-duty items like cast iron pots and pans.
