Creating Your Own Garden Storage Area Without a Shed: A DIY Guide

If you’re a gardener, you know how quickly your supplies can multiply. Without a shed for storage, they can take over your house. But you don’t need a big backyard shed to store your garden supplies. You can repurpose items from around your house or find things at thrift stores to create a functional and charming storage solution that reflects your style. A covered back porch or any empty spot against your house is ideal for garden storage to protect your items from damage.

Start by choosing a work surface like a potting bench or a repurposed table. Add open shelving above the surface by mounting brackets on the wall and cutting wooden shelf boards to fit. Use vinyl siding hooks if you’re attaching brackets to vinyl siding. Hang hand tools or drying herbs on a cup rail underneath the shelves. Hang larger tools on a coat or tool rack mounted to the side. A rolling cart adds movable storage. Once the base is set up, organize your garden tools for easy access.

To make a mishmash of thrift store finds look intentional, stick to a subdued, neutral color palette. This will give your space a designer-quality look with minimal effort. Upcycled baskets and strategically placed potted plants add aesthetic appeal. Large waterproof containers under the table can hold potting mix, fertilizer, and compost. Keep fertilizer in a sealed container out of direct sunlight. Compost needs airflow but protect it from water with a loose lid.

Fill a rolling cart with watering cans, plant labels, and other necessities. Stack unused pots on shelves for easy access. Create stations for specific tasks to stay organized. Store seed starting mix, planting tools, and DIY seed starters in your seed starting station. Store potting mix ingredients in airtight bags until ready to use. Use smaller containers in baskets for waterproof storage that adds charm to your space.
