How to Properly Lubricate a Noisy Garage Door and How Often to Do It

Garage doors go up, they go down, and most of the time we ignore them. But when they get noisy, it’s time to take action. The excessive noise of a garage door can often be due to poor lubrication. A well-lubricated garage door is essential to prevent rattling and groaning. Applying lubricants is a simple task that any homeowner can do.

Before lubricating the door, prepare it by cleaning the springs, tracks, rollers, and hinges. Use a silicone-based spray lubricant like WD-40 to lubricate the hinges, rollers, and springs. Make sure to wipe off any excess lubricant and avoid over-lubricating. It’s recommended to lubricate your garage door twice a year, or more frequently if it’s exposed to dirt and grit.

If lubricating the door doesn’t solve the noise issue, there may be other underlying problems that require the expertise of a garage door specialist.
