Create Your Own Stylish Easter Candlesticks

If you’re hosting family and friends this year, you might be seeking unique ways to adorn your home for Easter. Common decorations like traditional wreaths and bunnies can be found everywhere, literally in every home on your block. But how about opting for stylish candlesticks to enhance your mantelpiece, dining room, or other decorative surfaces with some extra flair? To DIY an Easter candlestick, you’ll need two wooden rounds, a dowel, and a few plastic eggs in your preferred shade and pattern.

This DIY hack isn’t just incredibly simple, but it’s also budget-friendly since you won’t need to spend on expensive supplies. You can likely find plywood rounds, a pack of two wooden dowels, and jumbo marbled eggs at your local Dollar Tree. The best part? There’s plenty of room to customize according to your tastes and interior design scheme. For example, if circles aren’t your favorite, choose a square or oval wooden base. You can also experiment with the material and colors of the eggs, such as swapping plastic eggs for Styrofoam. Additionally, you’ll need some strong wood adhesive or hot glue and paint or stain to suit your preferences (although this is optional, and you can stick with the original colors and design if you prefer).

Once you have your supplies, you’re ready to create a stunning elevated candle holder without breaking the bank. Start by painting (or staining) your wooden rounds. Remember, a couple of coats may be necessary to conceal their humble origins and give them a high-end appearance. If the edges are raised and rough, consider sanding them first to ensure a smooth finish. After preparing the rounds, determine their center and drill a hole. You can eyeball it if you’re confident or use a ruler (or measuring tape) to ensure you don’t drill off-center, as this could lead to a lopsided candlestick unsuitable for holding candles.

Next, take your eggs and drill two holes at each end. If using Styrofoam eggs, use a skewer or chopstick to create a hole through the middle to avoid damage. Place the dowel lightly in the hole of one wooden circle, slide the eggs on, and then position the other wooden circle on top. This helps you determine the desired dowel height, ensuring no excess stick is visible. Once measured, use a hand saw to trim any extra length. When satisfied, glue the dowel to the wooden bases, and you’re done. If this seems like too much work, simply glue the eggs together and skip the dowels. However, ensure the material is sturdy enough, or the eggs may squish together once candles are placed on top.

Ways to decorate and customize your Easter candlesticks

Painting the two wooden circles isn’t the only way to decorate your Easter candlestick. You can also paint the eggs, adding designs and patterns to personalize your candlesticks. If you prefer a subtle change, dip a toothbrush in paint and use it to speckle the eggs with different shades for some character. For a touch of glam, mix Mod Podge glue with your favorite glitter shade in a flat dish, and use a paintbrush to apply it to the eggs. Feel free to use different glitter colors for each egg or candlestick for a custom finish. You could also use decorative twine or ribbon to enhance battery-operated candles, like Biyanuo’s Plastic Flameless Pillar candles, or employ a paper napkin trick to transform plain candles into statement pieces.

Select paper napkins that align with your Easter theme, such as those featuring bunnies. Wrap them around the candles, cover them with wax paper, and melt the design onto the candle using the high-heat setting on your hairdryer. If you wish to use the candles beyond Easter, opt for napkins with spring flowers. Once you’re pleased with these decorative touches, your candlesticks are ready to be showcased.
